A short guide for checking whether some site is online or not.
Except that nowadays for many people sites aren't down, they just might be temporarily unavailable.
Software developers and hosting providers have new options when websites go offline. Instead of simply having the site “down” they now can choose to have the website “online” but with only partial functionality. Sometimes this will give them time to fix bugs or deploy software updates without being offline permanently, possibly losing search engine rankings or causing visitors to leave their website.
If you want to know if a site is online or not, there are some tools you can use. In this article I'll look at how to check some types of websites using an online checker – you might be surprised which websites cost nothing to see whether or not they're online or not.
"Down for Everyone or Just Me" — This service does its job just fine. It lets you know whether the site in question si down for you or it's an outage. They seem to have REST JSON API service, but it's not available yet.
Website Planet's free tool. Provides interesting data, such as IP address of site's server, response time and (HTTP) code. Furthremore, they create a screenshot of the site.
Unlike the above examples, Site24x7's website availability checker provides more technical data, such as DNS, Connect, TTFB and TTLB time.
Furthermore, they check the site from multiple locations (America, Europe, Asia, Australia). Result can be shared.
Nothing brings down your business more quickly than customers visiting your website, seeing a "504 Gateway Time-out" message, and assuming that you're no longer in business. Regularly check your website to make sure it's online, so you can resolve issues—and reassure customers—before any damage is done.
With our free site checker, you can perform simple checks with our free "Is website online?" checker found on our homepage, or in the "Free Tools" section in the main menu of the site.

All plans (free and paid) on HSP include automated downtime detection. Downtime detection check intervals are different between the plans, but they're included for sure.
With each detected downtime, you'll get a notification via the predefined channel (e.g., email, Telegram, Slack, etc.), and the incident is created automatically and saved to your status page. This helps inform your service subscribers and prevent any inconvenience and reduce support and helpdesk costs.
Visit our plans page to find out more about the included features with our hosted status pages here: https://hostedstatus.page/pricing.
