Except that nowadays for many people sites aren't down, they just might be temporarily unavailable.
Software developers and hosting providers have new options when websites go offline. Instead of simply having the site โdownโ they now can choose to have the website โonlineโ but with only partial functionality. Sometimes this will give them time to fix bugs or deploy software updates without being offline permanently, possibly losing search engine rankings or causing visitors to leave their website.
If you want to know if a site is online or not, there are some tools you can use. In this article I'll look at how to check some types of websites using an online checker โ you might be surprised which websites cost nothing to see whether or not they're online or not.
"Down for Everyone or Just Me" โ This service does its job just fine. It lets you know whether the site in question si down for you or it's an outage. They seem to have REST JSON API service, but it's not available yet.
